The objectives and content of this course are derived from the College of Nursing’s philosophy and conceptual framework and facilitate achievement of the School’s program objectives, as well as the essentials of Baccalaureate Education (AACN). Additionally, the major topics and skills covered in this course are common to most Theorist professional texts. Current research and advancement of theory and clinical practice determine content.

This course fosters an environment for the nursing student to implement Evidence-Based Practice, nursing theory, and holistic core values/principles into their professional practice. Students will apply their current knowledge and skills, while building new ones, to implement behavioral change strategies, fulfill nurse coaching activities, and integrate holism into their care delivery. Florence Nightingale advocated for patient care that was unified, health/wellness focuses and collaborative in delivery which is the desired practice change component of this course.

This course focuses on leadership style, management and leadership theories, change, quality management, fiscal and economic issues, personnel management, legal and ethical issues, healthcare organizations and policy, professionalism, political action, and career development.

The content and related learning activities presented in this course will prepare nurses in all areas of clinical practice with the essentials that influence current and future practice. Outcomes include: 1. Become an active user of technology and electronically available information. 2. Acquire the knowledge foundation to actively participate in the selection and implementation of information technology. 3. Become a discriminating collaborator in the design, selection, implementation and evaluation of applications/systems in Healthcare. 4. Understand the role technology plays in the goals of quality assurance, risk management, increased patient safety and greater utilization of evidence-based practice.

This course focuses on diverse populations in a variety of community settings and with individuals, families, aggregates, and communities.

This course is the culmination of the RN-BSN coursework at Radford University with reflection of student professional and academic growth through a final project and professional portfolio. The student will build on content from previous courses on nursing theory, research, and leadership to identify an area of personal interest for practice or research, define a project, see the project through to completion, and write a scholarly paper describing the conclusions from the project. The students will also build a comprehensive portfolio based on professional and academic experiences and future goals. This final course, NURS 409 RN Interprofessional Clinical and Capstone, is a 3-hour course: 2 hours didactic and 1 hour for practicum. This amounts to 45 in-person hours with a BSN or higher nurse leader preceptor. Students may complete their practicum close to home at the facility of choice. An affiliation agreement must be in place between the facility and Radford University. Clinical sites may have facility-based fees. Prior to enrolling in NURS 409, students will work with the clinical coordinator to confirm placement information and complete required clearance items that include a physical examination, required immunizations, background checks, and drug screening. Students must adhere to any state board of nursing requirements regarding out-of-state online students in clinical courses.

Focuses on the aging process to include biological, sociological, psychological, and spiritual components with clinical applications in the provision of care to older adult clients in a variety of settings, such as the community, assisted living facilities, acute care facilities, rehabilitation centers, and long-term care facilities.

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the research process including problem statements, review of literature, methodology, design, sampling, data collection, and interpretation of findings. The course emphasizes knowledge and skills that are essential for critical evaluation of data-based publications and presentations.

This course provides a comprehensive overview of strategies for successful learning and engagement in the RN to BSN program at Radford University culminating in a baccalaureate degree in nursing. The strategies include: introduction to RN-BSN coursework, professional writing utilizing APA format, review of plagiarism, understanding of scholarly and reputable sources, time management, online etiquette, and professional communication with faculty and peers.
