The Radford University Military Resource Center can assist with a variety of questions or unique situations that arise before, during and after your time as an online student—such as benefits, scholarships and advocacy. We’re here to help you utilize your benefits to their fullest extent and to provide an opportunity to expand your education beyond the classroom.
Radford provides support in the areas of academics, mental health, community building, military resource connections, and guidance through benefits processing steps via phone and Zoom to better serve our military population of students. Additionally, our military student organizations also offer a Zoom link for engagement in community development with other students. There is evening and weekend programming that is open for in-person engagement, even for online students.

Veterans Benefits

As an active duty or reserve member or veteran, you may have earned educational benefits for yourself and dependents. The Department of Veterans Affairs can determine your eligibility for VA education benefits. Each program has specific requirements.

 

If you are unsure which program applies to you, compare benefits through the VA website. Call the GI Bill helpline at 888-442-4551. Information regarding Radford University procedures and application information is available from the registrar’s office at Veterans Information.

Scholarships

  • Since its inception in 1942, the Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) has been committed to helping Air Force members and their families realize their academic goals. The centerpiece of the society’s education initiatives is the General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program, which provides $2,000 grants to sons, daughters and spouses of Air Force members.
  • Army Emergency Relief offers scholarships to students who are dependents and spouses of Army soldiers.
  • The Fisher House Foundation has scholarship programs for military children and spouses.
  • The Lucile Parrish Ward Veterans Award is available to any veteran of the armed forces of the United States whose service in the military caused a delay in the pursuit of a music career. The amount of the award is $2,250. Entrants must have outstanding musical talent, an excellent background and the highest recommendations.
  • The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships for the children of those who have served in the Marine Corps.
  • The Military Officers Association of America provides scholarships, grants and interest-free loans for applicants under 24 years old with a parent who has served or is on active duty.
  • The Purple Heart Scholarship Program is a competitive scholarship program that awards scholarships to Purple Heart recipients and their spouses, children and grandchildren each year.
  • The National Military Family Association supports educational expenses for military spouses. Scholarship funds on average are $1,000 and can be used toward degrees, certifications, licensure, clinical supervision for mental health licensure, CEUs, business expenses, and more. Any spouse with a valid military ID is eligible.
  • The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society’s Education Assistance Program offers interest-free loans and grants for undergraduate/post-secondary education at an accredited two- or four-year educational, technical or vocational institution in the United States. This financial assistance is available for children of active duty, retired or deceased Sailors and Marines, and for spouses of active duty and retired Sailors and Marines.
  • The Troops to Teachers program established in 2017 helps current and former members of the Armed Forces transition into second careers as K-12 teachers upon separation from military service. The Virginia Troops to Teachers program, administered by William & Mary, is open to students at any Virginia college.
  • The Veterans United Foundation Scholarship provides support for family members of service members and veterans. The scholarship program, launched in 2012, is funded by contributions from Veterans United Home Loans and its employees. The Veterans United Foundation Scholarship will be awarding up to 10 one-time scholarships for up to $50,000.
